NEW ROCHELLE, NY, July 19, 2022 – Melissa Khan has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. Supported by years of varied professional experience, Ms. Khan presently serves as the assistant press secretary of the United Federation of Teachers. Since obtaining the role in 2021, she has set up press conferences with the president of the United Federation of Teachers, kept abreast of current events and upcoming changes in the education field and liaised between interviewers and interviewees. Similarly, Ms. Khan has written and placed opinion pieces in New York City media, developed social media campaigns to advocate for the federation’s policies, positions and legislation, and accompanied senior union officials at news conferences and public events.
Prior to joining the United Federation of Teachers, Ms. Khan worked with NY1 News as a video editor and supervisor. Through NY1, she delegated editing assignments, worked with the editing team to ensure workflow, transcoded and converted content to be used for editing and edited voice-overs, sound bites and shows to be aired. During the early stages of her career, Ms. Khan gained valuable expertise in the field with the Regional News Network (RNN), Time Warner Cable NY1 News, The College of New Rochelle, WABC-TV/Disney and ESPN Radio.
Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Khan earned a Bachelor of Science in communications from The College of New Rochelle in 2014 and a women’s leadership certificate through the Yale School of Management in 2021. In a career filled with highlights, she is most proud of being the first editing supervisor at NY1 and having the innate ability to make people feel comfortable. She attributes her success to her upbringing and her desire to repay her parents who made considerable sacrifices to provide for herself and her brother. She also credits her many mentors who have facilitated her journey in the communications industry. Looking toward the future, Ms. Khan intends to create a foundation for victims of bullying.
